Parents
name their child(ren) in the presence of family and friends who
in turn welcome the new life into their culture
and way of life.
Naming Ceremonies have been in our culture
and society for a long time, probably well before Christianity. Many
cultures, societies and nations
have ceremonies to welcome and acknowledge a new life. It is a welcome,
a recognition and a celebration.
Celebrants have a range of ceremonies
to welcome a new life into a family, a community and the world.
Naming Ceremonies remind adults of the responsibilities
involved in raising children as well as recognising and appointing those
who will have an important role to play in the emerging young life. Certificates
for parents, godparents and grandparents are issued at the ceremony.
There is a selection of certificates to be issued.
The content of my Naming
Ceremonies have choices and options for parents. Human values such as
honesty, fairness, integrity and love are emphasised.
Some parents feel that in later years the child can choose a value system
when they are old enough to do so.
I usually do some research into the
meaning of your child’s names and include
this in the presentation.
Most naming ceremonies are done at home, a friend’s
house or a nearby park or beach. Some couples choose to return to the venue where
they were married
for the naming ceremony for their child.
